OPTIONS WEAVING STUDIO — In October 2012, Karen Pfeifer started a weaving program at OPTIONS, a local non-profit dedicated to helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live and work in the community. The OPTIONS Weaving Studio serves as an enrichment activity and a source of income for men and women with disabilities. Weaving artists create unique, inspired and amazing pieces while gaining a sense of purpose, self-esteem and joy. MIDDENDORF’S MANCHAC RUN — Hundreds of runners from far and wide competed in this annual race which was held every November from 2009-2018. The event featured 10 mile, 10K and 5K races that started and finished at Middendorf’s Manchac on Old Hwy 51. Runners and walkers received finisher medallions and were treated to a post-race catfish dinner. All proceeds benefited a local non-profit. 2018 marked the 10th and final year of the race. 648 people took part, and a record $33,000 was raised for Our Daily Bread Food Bank of Tangipahoa Parish. Over the 10 years of the race, a total of $127,000 was raised for charities in Tangipahoa Parish.
